Plasbumin®-5 is a 5% albumin solution intended for the immediate treatment of shock, burns, and hypoproteinemia. Plasbumin®-5 expands the blood volume approximately equal to the volume administered, thus helping to maintain the colloid osmotic pressure of the plasma while minimizing fluid shifts and dehydration.
As with all of Talecris Biotherapeutics' plasma protein solutions, Plasbumin®-5 is heat treated for 10 hours in a water bath at 140ºF after the product is bottled. No preservatives are added to the solution.
As required by the Food and Drug Administration, do not begin administration more than 4 hours after the container has been opened or entered.
